Hello Friends, As i'm sure you all know, the amazing Icon Elizabeth Taylor passed away yesterday, so i thought i would paint a tribute to her career and to who she was as a person. The reference image looks like it's from the 1940s, but it just really stood out to me. She has a grace & charm about about her. I hope you like it :)
Alright my friends, here is the final finsihed painting of Elle Fanning :) I found out yesterday that the amazing editorial i painted this video from was from Interview Magazine! I've been blown away from your kind words about the video. So happy your like it. I'm hoping to make more for you soon. I really like how the painting turned out. She was really fun to paint. i think there will be more where that came from ;) I hope you like it! Let me know what you think :)
Hello Hello! How was your weekend? I saw a brilliant movie called the "The King's Speech". If you haven't seen it, go see it. It's such a moving movie. Loved it!
So I'm happy to present you with a new Speed Painting Video. As your remember, a month ago i started watching Hayao Miyazaki and i saw his movie "My Neighbor Totoro". The main girls in the English version of the movie were played by, at the time very young little sisters Elle & Dakota Fanning. I was blown way how amazing they were in that movie. And then recently, i stumbled across a beautiful editorial of Elle Fanning (not sure what magazine it was from). She has a really great look. She has a little bit of Gemma/Sophie Ward look going on, plus she was wearing a dress from Valentino's spring 2011 collection, and I thought she would be perfect in my pop culture series, so the other day i did this painting and made this video for yawl. I had to do some finishing touches on the painting, but will post it tomorrow! I hope you like the video!
So i just realized i never posted a big version of this oil painting i did of Thom Yorke of Radiohead. I painted it two years ago for my friend Stacy Dupree. She is a singer and shares the same birthday as Thom, so i thought it would be a good birthday present. I really like how it turned out. It seriously just happened. I threw on some Radiohead and began painting and a few hours later it was done! It's a lot different style wise than my usual stuff... i think it kinda has the "Thom Yorke" Vibe.... What do you think? I hope you like it :)
Hello! How was your weekend? Mine was so so so much fun! Spent the weekend hanging out with my brother & the DuPree family. And I to got see Eisley + Christie Dupree perform a couple times. They sounded amazing!
It actually was my first time seeing Christie perform live. Which is kinda crazy cause she sings on a few songs I've written. But anyways, she was incredible!
Also as I'm sure you can guess, I saw Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows! Oh my goodness gracious great balls of fire! It was amazing! By far the best movie HP so far. They really stepped it up on this one. No joke, I was so inspired after seeing it that I didn't fall asleep till 3 or 4 in the morning.... haha As we were walking out of the theater, my first words to my brother were "I'm going to paint a tribute to Dobby the House Elf" which for you non-HP people, Dobby is a character in the stories. Thus this picture... haa Thought he would be a perfect addition to my "Pop Culture Series". :) It's Ink, Water color, and Colored Pencil layered on ridiculously thick watercolor paper. I hope you like it!
P.S. Oh I also did an interview with AnOther Magazine. If you want to read it Click Here
Well My friends... I'm pleased to post my 4th painting in my Musician Portrait Series! Today's Portrait is of music legend Morrissey. I've loved the Smiths, so it was fun to paint this portrait. I hope you like it :)
On a different note, Well... Looks like I'm going to Prom this weekend!!! haha Yep, you heard it right! I'm really excited for it! It's a "Fashion Prom" by Joonbug.com & Fashionindie.com. So, I'm flying out to NYC Saturday morning, and fly back here Sunday for Mother's Day! haha So, I'm going to be pretty tired, but it's going to be amazing and worth it.
I hope you all are having a wonderful day. P.S. In honor of the prom... i posted some of my high school Prom Pictures up on "Inside My Brian" today ;)
P.S.S. - I got nominated for “Most Likely to Succeed” for the Fashion Prom! hah You can vote on it if you want :) >> Vote Here
Hello, hello Friends, So, this weekend, I had a great discovery on youtube... "ALEXA CHUNG"!!! Haha yep! Where have I been! I stumbled on to her interview with Harry Potter, and i was laughing so hard! There aren't many talk shows that i watch or really like all that much. Her show is amazing. So I did this painting; I Thought it would be a perfect for my Pop Culture Series, Plus she looks amazing on the Magazine Cover. I hope you like it! Whenever i do a painting of a person, i like to give it to them as a thank you. I feel like they are part owner of the picture, because the painting couldn't exist without the person. With that said, I was wondering if you all could help me get the painting to her? I was wondering if you can help me tweet her this painting, Maybe if we can send her enough messages she might see it. :) Her twitter account name is "alexa_chung" and if you read this, Alexa, please email me and i will send you the painting :) Thank you, my friends. i hope you all are having a wonderful day!
Update: Alexa twitted me! She is wonderfully amazing! thank you all :)
Well, my friends, Happy Romeo + Juliet Friday! ok! So yesterday Naomi Nevitt tweeted that she was listing to the Romeo + Juliet soundtrack, which took me way back. How classic is that soundtrack?! Well, all day i have had that movie stuck in my head, so i thought i would draw a scene from it! :) What do you think? i hope you like it and Happy Romeo + Juliet Friday!
Edit: Because so many of you requested a print of this, i added a 8X11 Print of it to my store. Let me know if you want a bigger size. :) Click here to see the print
Well... It's a sad day, As i'm sure you all heard the great Michael Jackson has Died today. A man that from the youngest age has captivated the hearts and minds of many generations. He was a great performer, and a great singer, and a great artist... I did this painting tonight as a tribute to a great man.
Good morning, good morning. Well i hope you all are having a wonderful week. for me this week has been a tornado. Blowing me up and down and side to side. i'm been chipping away on a editorial that i think should turn out super interesting. i'm really experimenting on the layering process. i think it will turn out looking pretty unique. Did this drawing of Bjork last night before i went to bed. i couldn't help but draw her after seeing that Concert Movie the other night. i hope you like it ;)
Wow, so so so glad it's the weekend! The last two weeks have bled into one, leaving me one tired boy! But alas, it's the weekend! woot woot woot! How is it going for yawl?
Ok so i wasn't sure how to categorize todays portrait... Wasn't sure if it was going to be in the Blogger Portrait Series or Pop Culture Series... then i realized, it's technically both, so i'm putting them in both.
Today i was talking with my really good friend Mr. Tim Brooks, who is in the greatest most fun group alive called LUVBEAT, and i clicked over to their Myspace Music Page to listen to their Miley Cyrus cover song they did with their neighbor, Sam.
Well, anyways, somehow i stumbled on to Brandi Cyrus's Blog, and i had fun looking through it and reading her post. Then i came a across this picture of her and Taylor Swift on the blog so i thought it would be fun to do a double blogger portrait of them, cause Taylor keeps an interesting Blog on Myspace. I really like how the picture turned out. It was the first drawing i've done in so long on actually art paper. It felt good! hah. Well, i hope you all like it.
Ok so i wanted to give you a little progress report on my Audrey Hepburn Movie watching... First off, thanks for all the great movie suggestions. So far i've seen My Fair Lady, Sabrina, Funny Face, and Breakfast at Tiffany's I think if i had to rate my Favorites so far in order 1: Funny Face 2: My Fair Lady 3: Sabrina 4: Breakfast at Tiffany's
They're all wonderful though... Also, when i was watching Funny Face last night i decided i need to go to Paris and fall in love cause it looked like way too much fun! hahahaha ha But yes, i loved the movies. Thank you. i shall continue my way seeing them all. :)
Yay! Day after Christmas Merry! How was all your Christmas-es? Yesterday was an amazing time with the family. This morning i woke up, sat down and painted a picture of Thom Yorke. i promised my friend i would paint it for her brithday and her birthday passed, and now i finally did it. It's now my 3rd oil painting, and with each picture, i've been trying to learn different techniques. This one i tried to keep it really loose, blind contoured on to the wood, then painted within the lines, and re-outlined in oil pastel. Hope you like it. :)
Ok, so, i know this is the 3rd Taylor Swift drawing i've posted on here, but this one comes with a story. When my mom saw the drawings i had already posted of her, she said to me, "Oh Danny, you know what? I have the perfect picture of Taylor Swift for you to draw." i turned to her with a puzzled yet amused look on my face and said, " Oh yea?" Taking my prompting she responded, " Yes! When I was at Starbucks today, I saw her new album cover and it's perfect for you to draw. I mean, in the picture she's got 'Your Hair'. You know what I mean, like the hair you draw. You should draw it."
haha. Yes, so this was Saturday that she said this to me. So i always "Honor my Father and my Mother" and thus this post was born. :)
On another note, I was contacted by Schnati from the great German blog Les Mads. and she said they wanted to do a interview with me. So it's up today on their site. Click Here for the Les Mads Interview
Lastly, you may have noticed that there is a play button under the drawing up there. Well, it's been a really long time since i've taken the time to sit down and write music, but i really needed to, so i finally did this weekend, and i composed a song for you all. i've been wanting to write a soundtrack for my life and the moods i'm in. This song represents the mood i was in this weekend. I plan on making a short film edited to the music. I hope you like it!
