John Varvatos - Bicycle Chic & Cheap Trick
Friday, April 11, 2008
Look who loves to bicycle…
While I’m not a huge celebrity gawker, I love it that celebrities do help to raise awareness, and can possibly inspire us…. get us out of our cars and out bicycling.
Ladies who decide to park the car and bicycle instead.
Gisele Bundchen -“I go every day to work on my bike,” Ms. Bundchen told the Daily News a couple of years ago. “It’s faster than a car, and cheaper.”
Jerry Hall- “I ride a... bicycle or take taxis. My bicycle has an old-fashioned leather seat and basket; there are fantastic circuits in Richmond Park, which I use.”
See if you can pick out Chloe, Kate (H), Elle, Angelina, Giselle, Jennifer (G), Madonna (2 pics). And then there is Daryl Hannah, who is really working it strongly for Bicycle Advocacy.

Discover It!... My List of Bicycle Chic Products Galore! …StyleHive
A lot of people don’t get the StyleHive feature button I’ve placed on this blog. “What’s it for?” I get asked.
Let me count the ways! If you are looking for just about anything bicycle (chic) related, you’ve just got to check it out. I’ve listed so many categories (I blogged this before in a prior post), but really take my word and check it out!
If you ‘follow me’ in the hive you’ll get wind of new listings…wonderful things! Now you can so easily find ‘bicycle chic’ all in one place. Receive new listing updates from me at Stylehive if you want by requesting it. Or just check back here on this blog and I will keep you informed too.
Another oft asked question I get is;” Why do you bother to do it?” IT’S FOR YOU. A GIFT. I myself, want to feel really smashing, stylish, cute, (and a zillion more adjectives) when I bicycle. I’m sharing with you my favorite finds.
Then comes this amusing little question/observation; “What, you don’t get anything for doing it? Followed by…”You should make a little extra on the side…..”
So let me know/email me. For now it’s a labor of love, one I really do love to do!!

Hope to emerge soon, looking as fabulous as Christina Ricci in ruffled Burberry for Elle UK . . .

{eco chic: cork}
I used to have a rather large cork inspiration board above my desk, filled with the things I liked to gaze at while working and daydreaming. And while it has since been replaced with a picture wall, I've always missed the versitility of the cork . . .
Perhaps I could find a little cork lamp {above}, similar to Jessie Randall's, who adds a personal touch with photobooth strips and a brooch from her father's antiques shop.

Seamless-looking cork floor is as durable as hardwood also cushions tired feet and works well in high-traffic areas.

Jodie Patterson Becker, publicist for Zac Posen's foyer wall, covered with a sheet of corkboard and personal photographs.
This beautiful, tile-like floor is cleverly made from wine bottle stoppers.

{office space}
Completely mad for Chris Miller's incredibly beautiful Roger Sprunger for Dunbar rosewood and chrome desk.
Found a similar one at Treadway/Toomey Galleries, and while ultra-sleek can be a good thing, prefer the set of side drawers {like Chris'} for additional storage . . .
{photography by Sharyn Cairns for Livingetc.}
And while we're on the topic of workspaces, looking to add shelving above mine, and found inspiration while flipping through magazines with a friend, over chocolate and buttery shortbread, mais bien sûr!
Flanking a framed French poster, these beautiful shelves are made of Black Butt wood originally from an army barracks in Queensland.

{fog cherry blossoms + sultry hair}
Rollout includes Fog Cherry Blossoms {above} by photographer Karin Bubas, and {if you're feeling very adventurous} Sultry Hair, by Andrio Abero {below} as part of their Artist Series custom wallpapers.
While both of these designs may be slightly too avant-garde and edgy for my tastes, I do love their sense of adventure.
Abero, a graduate from the Art Institute of Seattle, and also a DJ, has been influential in the Seattle music scene for years and now helps shape the design world with 33rpm, which he established in 2000.
{beautiful example of graphic work by 33rpm}
You may have seen this image recently, but I'm in love with it . . . Shot by Emma at Björklund & Wingqvist, "one of Stockholm's oldest and best stocked wallpaper shops," it illustrates a beautiful ceiling installation of wallpaper by Lisa Bengtssonsa, who is also amazingly talented in her own right.
