{have a beautiful weekend + links}
. . . this past week has been one of changes -- a new cut and colour at the salon, a new resolve to get things back on track at the gym, and here, wonderful new ideas and plans . . . but for now, it's the weekend, and already, 8:15 dinner reservations friday evening, devastatingly handsome company and a glass of red by candlelight, and early saturday morning, a little shopping, coffee and lanvin, and late saturday afternoon, a glittering and golden sunset and a cozy drive out of the city in the last fading light . . .
hope you're having an astonishingly beautiful weekend,
~ roseline xo

Can This Be Made Into A Room? Chloe Fall 2010
I still can't get all that camel off my brain from yesterday's post. It must be a sign that I need to turn it into a room!
Of all the images from yesterday's post, I chose this one from Chloe because it was the most achromatic (no color). What seems to be the easiest way to design a room, is actually the hardest. I would much rather work with a room with a range of colors so I wouldn't run the risk of being stale. When a room is as achromatic as this, one needs to rely on a variety of finishes and textures.
As with most bedrooms, I started with the bedding, which in this case is menswear inspired. I would use the herringbone as the main fabric on the duvet and then add pillows in the hounds-tooth and waffle-weave diamond fabrics (Duralee). I would then upholster a classic wing-back/camel-back bed in a camel suede (William Sonoma Home) and dress any windows in tan linen drapes (Pottery Barn). The Chloe snakeskin bag I would interpret as a tone-on-tone cowhide (William Sonoma Home), for a little ruggedness and interest.
The real interest, though, lies in the hard surfaces. The creme de la creme? The vintage 1970's nightstands made with polished brass sheeting and finished with copper nailheads (1st Dibs). Raarrrr.... Nothing beige about these babies. To contrast against the high gloss finish, I would add a French key cabinet in a light lime finish (Global Views) at the foot of the bed and accessorize it exactly how they did in this image. Why change perfection? Add a gorgeous quatrefoil chandelier from Arteriors for a little more glam, and the room is complete!
So what do you think? Stale and vanilla or serene and sophisticated?

. . . bright and airy and positively flooded in light, clean lines with an ultra-modern fireplace and avant-garde sky-high bookshelves intermingling perfectly with chandeliers and antique chairs and best of all, on the côte d'azur / french riviera . . .

Sophisticated 70's
Thank goodness the 80's are going by the wayside. Don't get me wrong, I am a product of the 80's, and they will always have a special place in my heart. As far as fashion goes, though, we could do better. How about a look that's clean, sophisticated, flirty, glam and best of all figure flattering? Look no further than the 70's!

Flirty silk blouses, wide-brimmed sun hats, menswear inspired overcoats, and blown-out Charlie's Angels hair all help achieve this seductive look. And girls like me with a little extra junk in the trunk rejoice! No more low-rise jeans!!! No more doing the hike-up-the-pants-because-I-don't-want-to-show-crack dance!! Hallelujah. We bootylicious girls can pull off high-waisted wide legged trousers without the dreaded "mom butt." Finally, a look for real women.

The Place Between Memories & Mysteries - Inspiration Friday
Photos by Norman Parkinson, Camilla Akrans, Snorpy, and Lev Efimov, and maya tetter.
Happy Harry Potter Day!
Well if you were wondering... yes I am a big Harry Potter nerd!
and yes i'm excited about the movie! :)
hahaha Also really excited cause my good friends from Texas, Eisley & Christie Dupree are coming into town today!
So it's pretty much a double whammy today! ha
How has your week been?
Mine was alright, it's just been a whirlwind for the last two years.
Which has been amazing, but also so so so exhausting.
I'm about ready to slow things down, and get back to Learning & Experimenting...
Which I'm pretty sure i get to start doing Monday.
I basically have a whole long list of things i want to try and learn how to do...
But i think the #1 thing on my list to learn is how to sculpt!
Seriously have always wanted to do that but never have got to.
Do any of you have anythings you would like to see me learn?
Also I really hope you like today's selection of images for Inspiration Friday.
I've been really liking grouping Camilla Akrans & Norman Parkinson's work together.
Not sure why, but it really works well together.
I hope you like this post and i truly hope you have a great weekend :)

{style inspiration: knotted belt}
. . . have an inordinate amount of cardigans, from lightweight and summery to cozy and cashmere, hand-embroidered and trimmed in velvet ribbon to embellished with crystal fasteners or mother-of-pearl buttons; perfect for any season and any weather, and nearly always layered over bow blouses, silky camisoles, or the softest brushed cotton . . . but suddenly quite smitten with the idea of wearing them on their own, buttoned and belted in a simple and easy sophistication . . .
{p.s.} the belt is from asos

{travel inspiration: brussels, belgium}
. . . curiously, one place have never considered when making travel plans is brussels, and yet, {despite its cool, rainy days}, the age-old, utterly romantic and beautifully ornate architecture, climbing vines, intricate balconies and enchanting grey skies beckon . . .
