. . . even in mid-february, the city of lights was still {and always will be} beautiful, as it is anytime of year, but the photographs of paris in the springtime, posted at this time, a little over a year ago, were filled with such enchantment, thoughts to return have already been swirling about, not much more than four weeks later, to breath in all the blossoms filling the air . . . and isn't it amazing, the lure of any place, after having seen it in the light petal-tinted hue of le printemps? . . . and so, here, a few magical photographs of the exquisiteness of springtime of another lovely place, just outside of munich . . .

. . . and while on the topic of paris, {as we so often are}, still and always a fascination with travel photographs, especially the photographs of favourite places, and these hauntingly beautiful shots of la ville-lumière capture the city of light in a way that beckons for one's return at once, as fewer things are more inspiring than to fall once again into these familiar places, along the seine and palais royale, and if it is not possible to steal away at the moment, then even a glimpse, in photographs, are inspiration enough until the next time . . .

. . . one of my most favourite places in the world is versailles, a place so filled with the magic of history and the perfectly ornate stories of times gone by, it nearly overwhelms; often filled with travelers and admirers, one can only imagine how it must have been in the quiet of nightfall, especially the wonderfully mysterious appartements privés de marie antoinette / private apartments of marie antoinette, and the majestic hall of mirrors, enveloped in the beautiful shadows cast by a sea of chandeliers . . .

{paris in the wintertime & hello}

hello-header
paris-winter

hello again! . . . a quick note in a flurry of things this week, and it is beginning to look like things may be a little sporadic around here for the first little while . . . there are wonderful new projects to look forward to, and exciting news to share {can not wait to tell you!}, but despite it all, must confess, have become utterly encompassed in organizing and am currently tangled up in old photographs, long lost love letters, and beautiful bits of the past, and slowly, slowly, there is a place for everything and everything in its place . . .

à bientôt / see you soon
and hope you're having a stunningly lovely
week so far,

. . . with the exception of one christmas in florida, have always spent the holidays somewhere where there is the possibility of swirling and softly falling snow -- whether paris or anywhere else in the world, the holidays were always a winter wonderland in late december, and while shall always love a blanket of snow on christmas day, have sometimes wondered what it would be like to celebrate in a place where the sun shone brightly and warmly and it was summertime, and realise that it would be quite the same, if you are with those you love, with the exception, of course, that you could trim the tree with freshly picked gardenias and host a holiday dinner party outdoors . . .

. . . curiously, one place have never considered when making travel plans is brussels, and yet, {despite its cool, rainy days}, the age-old, utterly romantic and beautifully ornate architecture, climbing vines, intricate balconies and enchanting grey skies beckon . . .

. . . if you ever find yourself in the south of france, be certain to visit the chateau la durantie . . .

built in 1845 for the duke of isly, the astonishingly romantic chateau is located in perigord vert, a beautiful and tranquil part of dordogne, southwest france, and is filled arched windows and juliet balconies, glittering chandeliers and canopy beds, luxurious
marble baths and italian bedlinens, while outdoors, twelve acres of perfectly manicured grounds, swimming pool, tennis court and orchards . . . and already there are thoughts of sparkling holiday parties by the beautifully ornate fireplaces on chilly nights or an enchanting weekend away . . .

. . . if you've been reading for a while, you'll know about a certain fondness for glimpses of the vacation shots of others {paris: one two three, bella italia}, and while this afternoon may have been a flurry of speeding along busy highways, still unpacked carryalls and a million unanswered e-mails, everything seemed to fall away at the sight of perfectly ornate domes, venetian mirrors and chandeliers, soft and pretty pastels and the palest pink roses in marvelous madrid . . .
