First Ink Painting

Danny Roberts first ink Painting of Gemma Ward out of the artist Character Sketch book

I was looking through Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook,
and i just had to post it.
It's actually my first ink painting i had ever done.
It was the 45th picture in the series and the picture of Gemma Ward just looked like it should be painted.
I don't know why i love this series so much.
It's pretty raw and they aren't my best drawings, but for some reason it's one of my most favorite projects i've done.
I really want to start working on Volume 3 now.
Well, i hope you like it!
Oh, also if you have questions for the video question and answer with me and my brother, please ask it ;)
Hope you're having a great night!

Lily & Gemma Book Picnic - Remember When

14th and 15th black and white line drawing out of volume 1 of the character sketch book called the lily cole and gemma ward sketchbook by artist Danny Roberts

Wow wow wow! Remember, November 1, 2006! haha
haha Ok, so today's "Remember When" Post is the 14th & 15th drawing from Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook.
The name of Volume 1 is "The Lily & Gemma Book" named after Lily Cole & Gemma Ward,
cause they are the first two people i drew to learn how to draw off of. :)
Seriously, i can remember where i was and what i was doing when i drew every picture in this book!
haha It brings back so many memories!
i love it! Well, i hope you are having a relaxing Saturday!
I think i might be going to the beach...
went yesterday and it was amazing!

6th Character Sketch - Remember When Saturday

Artist Danny Roberts 6th drawing ever of fashion model gemma ward in volume 1 of his character sketchbook

OOOOOh ok so,
I ♥ Saturday's!
hahah How's your day going?
Been having a relaxing day with my family.
I had an idea today for a posting series I'm going to start...
Since i've only been able to draw for about 3-4 years,
I thought i would start a weekly post called "Remember When".
It's going to consist of drawings that i did back when i was starting to learn how to draw.
Thought it could be a cool/fun way to encourage you all that if you like something and want to learn something,
With some hard work, you can do anything. :)

The drawing today was my 6th drawing ever of Gemma Ward that i did 4 years ago.
It's from Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook.
If you don't know about my Character Sketchbook i have some info on it here. ;)
I hope you like it.
Hope you're having a wonderful Saturday!

A Ballerina Named Sasha

Drawing number 70 out of Artist Danny Roberts Character Sketchbook of Sasha Pivovarova

Hello, friends! How was your day?
Mine was great; been working on a painting. Hopefully i will have it done by tomorrow...
It's a really fun picture, full of major fashion "Power Players". Hah
I'm working on it for one of my friends. I think it's going to turn out nice. :)

Oh, ok, so the drawing today is Drawing #70 out of volume one of my Character Sketchbook.
Wow! It seems like light years ago that i drew this picture...
ah... such simple times... :)
I think this was one of the first color pictures in the Sketchbook.
The picture was drawn with these super cheap fine tip pens,
and it was of Sasha Pivovarova.
She looked to me like a Ballerina in it.
I don't know why, but i think i've always had a crush on ballerinas.
They're so graceful and magical!
Like Cate Blanchett in the "The Curious Case of Benjamin Button"... so wonderful!

Well, my friends, I hope you are doing great!
Right now... not sure why, but i have a big 'ol headache right now... ah! not good...
but good night :)

A Model Skeleton

Artist Danny Roberts drawing of Sasha Pivovarova in a Skeleton

Hey, Hey, Hey. How are you all doing today?!
Wow, i had a long one.
Been working a lot lately...
How is the week going for you?
Anything exciting happening?
The drawing today brings back old memories;
i drew this almost 3 years ago in Volume 1 of my Character Sketchbook.
I actually don't have the original drawing of this anymore,
I gave to Gemma Ward a year and a half ago when she and Sophie came over.
We were sitting going through the Character Sketchbook drawings,
which was really fun and interesting cause i love sharing my drawing with my drawing subject-matter!
But anyways, she picked this one out as one of her favorites, so i gave it to her.
Awe, good times. Shoot, makes me miss my Australian sista Sophie so much ;(
Well, my friends, i hope you enjoy this line drawing!

Lily & Gemma Book Drawing 100

Drawing number 100 out of artist Danny Roberts Lily Cole and Gemma Ward Book.

Wow! Today went by quicker and longer than i expected.
You know those kind of days?
Well, i just had one of them.
Spent the day drawing and catching up on work and emails.
Also, spent a little time looking through some of the NYFW shows i didn't go to...
I have to say, i sure wish i had gone the Rodarte show!
I mean, wow! They busted out the sharpie and went to town! haha
The Collection is so awesome!
It looked like some of the hair and make up was inspired by Tavi's amazing Borders & Frontiers shirt ;)

Well, tonight i present you with Drawing 100 which is the last drawing out of Volume one of "The Character Sketchbook".
It's a couple years old now...
but it's always fun looking through that book...
I really hope you like it! :)

P.S. I picked up my artwork from the art show tonight. I was like a kid in a candy store to have all the framed pieces back home. Posted a picture up on my Image Diary of me with one of the pieces~!

Singing in the Rain

Line Drawing of Sasha Pivovarovas face by danny roberts

Why Happy Sunday early morning friends!
Just got back from hanging with my friends, the Baxleys,
and i saw "Singing in the Rain" for the first time,
which was awesome!
Now i have a huge crush on Debbie Reynolds (the leading lady in the movie).
Oh and i started sketching up some clothes designs
cause i think my friend Alice and I are going to make a small handmade Collection sometime in the future...
and there are a few outfits i think that are going to be pretty fun.
Well, the drawing above i did a few years back, i drew it in the car while on a road trip.
i hope you like it! :)

Back in the Day

Danny Roberts Drawing of Super Model Lily Cole art out of his Character Sketchbook

Oh wow... boy, do I miss the days back a few years ago when i started the Character Sketchbook.
I was going through the old book today, and it brought back so many memories.
It was so basic and simple, with so many accidents and freakish mess-up drawings...
That strangely enough work...

Lately, i've been longing to go back to that place,
so i think i might!
Starting at where i'm at, number #204,
i'm going back to simple pen drawings!

So, i hope you like #13. It's what brought me back to my roots today!
i'm hoping to do an art show displaying numbers 1-200 in order,
within this year... so we will see. i will keep you all posted.

Well, good night to you all my friends!
Thanks for everything.

Gemma and the Cello

Danny Roberts Painting of Model Gemma Ward sitting playing the cello

Oh, how the Gemma and the Cello drawing makes me miss my good friend Sophie Ward.
This was one of her old favorite paintings out of Volume 1 of the Character Sketchbook.
I think it's both of our goals to be able to play the cello some day.
How amazing is the cello?
This drawing is number 94 out of Vol. 1.

How are you all doing?
How are you enjoying all the Fashion Shows?
Any of you excited about the NEW A CAMP ALBUM!
Nina Persson is one of my all time favorite voices!
i'm excited to be home painting tomorrow!
Well, sorry for my random commentary!
Woot, woot. Night/goodmorning!

Well friends, i'm sitting here yawning and thinking back on the day.
It's over for me, but for most of you,
you're getting up and your day is just beginning...
i'm so ready for bed. Lately, i've been pretty tired,
i think it's normal, just been working hard.
i bought a pile of wood yesterday to use as convases! i'm excited.

Thanks for all the kind comments on the last post.
I'm glad you like that picture.
A lot of you wanted to see the full painting,

Pages 24 and 25

These are drawings out of fashion artist Danny Roberts' Character Sketchbook. The model in the picture is Australian Gemma Ward

Happy, happy Monday to you all.
How was your weekend?
Is Christmas approaching making your life a little more hectic?
It is for me, but Christmastime is hectic; i guess "It's the most wonderful kind of hectic of the year" (sung in Andy Williams voice)
i have a bigger "to do" list than Santa this year.
The only downside is, i don't get a plate of cookies once it's done... hah

Well, the picture today is out of Volume one of my Character Sketchbook.
i hope you like it. It's an oldie but goodie.
I also posted a new picture in my Image Diary.
It's a little out take of some pictures me and my Bro were talking for my new Lookbook account.
Oh yea! i have a Lookbook.nu account!
hahah It should be fun. i only have one picture up right now.

Oh, and lastly, one of my best friends Mr Jason Jones has a new Blog.
Some of you might remember him from when i posted his work a few months ago.
He is incredible, so cleaver and fun. He has clothes and accessories for sale. They're amazing! Please check them out.
his blog is Lorem & Ipsum.

P.S. Thank you to all who have been ordering prints! Your support has been an amazing Christmas present for me.

i think the model in the picture is Heather Marks.

Well, my friends, i think i'm off for now.
Be back soon enough.
I think I'm going to be going into the "experimental stage" soon,

oh the Beginning...

This Picture is from Danny Roberts character Sketchbook, Volume: The Lily and Gemma Book.

October 30, 2006
It was an overcast day, i was visiting my brother at school with my friends, Ryan and Alice.
I was sitting on the ground hanging out when i had the idea
to do a sketchbook to monitor my journey of learning how to draw.
Two years and 199 drawings later, here i am, one left. I sat down last night and looked through Volume 1 of the book.
It was so fun to see the growth. That's why i posted drawings 3 and 4, so you could see the starting point. :)

Thanks for all the name suggestions on the book.
It helped so, so, so much. I think that i have decided on the book's name.
i'm running them by my partner in crime, Sophie, and few of my friends.
Once it's 100%, i can't wait to tell ya!

Welp, i hope you're having a relaxing Sunday.
Watching Seinfeld right now! Such a good show. :)

199

This is a portrait of Gemma Ward, from Danny Roberts Lily Cole and Gemma Ward character sketchbook
Well, morning morning friends!
I'm up and wide awake excited for today.
I'm hoping that this will be the day i finish Volume 2 of my Sketchbook!
The drawing above is the second to last page in the book. Did it yesterday.
Hope you guys like it.
I have a question for you, and i would really love to hear your thoughts...
There has been talk about publishing this book.
It would be 1 book, both volumes, so 200 drawings and about 220 pages.
I would love to know how many of you would be interested in getting it?

Also to answer a few questions...
Alot of you have been asking if i have any art for sale.
Right now, i don't, but i'm working on getting an online store set up,
so hopefully soon. :)
It warms my heart that so many people would want to support me in that way.
One thing that would help me alot, if you have the time, is if you can click here,
and vote on the prints you would be interested in, that would help alot.

The last thing... on the video process.... haha...
well, i'm used to using Final Cut Pro and i got a new computer, so i'm using imovie...
and welll... i'll just say imovie can't really do much, so i'm going to get final cut
and i promise i'll have the video of the drawing process soon!
Hope you all are having a great day!

Character Sketchbook Volume 1

My character sketch book is one of my Favorite pass times. On October 30, 2006 i start the book as a sort of science project, to show people that practice pays off. I was starting to draw a lot, and was working on blind contour drawing and blind contour cheating a little drawing. so I started this book to practice that. I drew all the drawings with a pen so that i wouldn't get tempted to erase. Also, to cut down on variables, I decided to pick two people draw (even though as the book goes on a few more people join the book. The Great Sophie Ward, Heather Marks, and Jessica Stam are a few) through out the book. The Two people i pick where Lily Cole & Gemma Ward, because they look exactly like the characters i drew. My goal is to some day publish all the volumes of this book.(each volume is a 100 drawings). well here is a sneak peak of Volume 1 i hope you like it. i'll be posting so of volume 2 soon.
