{inspiration for spring: fall collections}

. . . the wonderful thing about previewing fall collections in early spring is that they are always overflowing with inspiration for spring -- striped sweaters and pencils skirts, layers of cropped knits over crisp blouses and wide-legged trousers, bright saffron-coloured dresses, and most of all, classic trenches, belted and perfectly paired with cuffed skinny jeans and heels . . .

. . . with plans to spend the summer in nothing but fluttery summer dresses and billowy pleated skirts the colour of champagne, instantly fell head over heels for the washed silk charmeuse dresses and pretty pencil skirts of this recent collection by edelweiss by sarah, infused with pure 1940's hollywood glamour and a wonderfully modern approach to vintage style, every piece is perfect for a day at the office and a date afterward . . .

. . . saturday afternoon was coffee & coral lipstick, shrimp dumplings & snow pea leaves, and a trip to the flower markets; sunday was a luxuriously late start, a frothy misto & a languid brunch, and, most of all, a hopelessly lovely entire day, alone together . . . and now, monday, monday and back to work with new and beautiful things to to see and plan and do, and many more moments of happy inspiration . . .

{runway inspiration: gianfranco ferré, milan}

. . . with sheer organdy blouses and elegant pencil skirts, structural jackets, and an intriguing mix of textures such as satin, flannel and cashmere, embellished with beading and bands of silver crystals, tommaso aquilano and roberto rimondi's most recent collection for gianfranco ferré made the runways of milan a beautiful study in "decorated minimalism", which, as far as minimalism goes, is the very best kind . . .

. . . one of the best things about winter is that things seem to slow down a little, the overcast skies and shorter days inspiring less time traipsing about, and more cozy and candlelit nights at home, and rather than spend the rest of january and february whiling away the days until spring, shall spend more time in moments of repose and pretty lacy things, to plot and plan and dream . . .

. . . had been planning to debut this fun new feature earlier in the week, but it's the holidays and things are already a beautiful whirlwind of festivities, and so, today, wonderfully excited to announce a brand new series: in my closet, a glimpse of some of the things that am currently wearing & adore, beginning with this ultra-stylish and perfectly preppy tartan hooded coat . . .






. . . always a certain fondness for all things classic & a little preppy, and especially for tartan, and while have always adored lauren moffat's vintage-chic style, absolutely adore the fall 2010 collection, with its cashmere cardigans and silk charmeuse tops, but especially the tartan pieces, and most of all, this tartan coat, perfect with jeans and tall leather boots {and opera gloves if it's chilly} for traipsing about on early december afternoons, or belted and paired with socks and heels for an evening at a new gallery exhibition, or lattes for two beneath the chandeliers of a quaint café . . .

. . . and perhaps it is the elegant half-upswept hair with dipped ends or the nostalgia of old stone houses in the english countryside, but the search for the perfect leopard print coat may have just ended here . . .
