{two lovely things: clean lines & cozy afternoons}

two lovely things
paradissi-2

paradissi-1

. . . famously known for maximalist tendencies, am sometimes surprised when irresistibly drawn to unadorned walls and clean, modern lines, although, having always grown up in homes with fireplaces, perhaps the lure of a roaring fire in this last day of january is simply too much to bear . . .

{p.s.} friday was errands & appointments and much too fun on saturday & sunday, missing a weekend farewell & links, and so, if you've only just arrived . . .

. . . the first week of the new year has come and gone and it was filled with new year's things -- organizing and exercising and rationalizing; and two days and a paper shredder later, things in the office are now perfectly organized into files with beautifully hand-lettered labels and all neatly sorted into a brand new cabinet that is certain to be gilded soon enough . . . and now, as the last of the late-afternoon light fades, there bouquets of roses scattered all about, and it's the weekend . . .

hope you're having a beautiful time, wherever you may be,

. . . every year at this time, always and irresistibly drawn to dusky neutrals and rich textures -- exposed ceiling beams and washed floorboards, luxe velvet and stacks upon stacks of firewood, always perfectly paired, of course, with glittering chandeliers; and while always quite adored wicker in the summertime, had not imagined how lovely wicker ottomans and armchairs could be in the colder months, next to fireplaces and perfect for apéritifs on chilly & cozy november nights . . .

{p.s.} more wicker:
* summer to autumn
* paint-dipped baskets
* afternoons in the park & here & here
* breakfast in paris

. . . far too warm outside to be thinking about fireplaces, but must confess have never really stopped -- {the coziness! and pure romance} -- and this corner fireplace {in the kitchen} is perfect in its rustic elegance and particularly charming . . .

{colour inspiration: mahogany + gold}

. . . always fresh whites in springtime, and after that, warm whites in winter, but lately and always at this time of year, drawn to deep and cozy hues of mocha and mahogany, especially when paired with gold and the golden flickers of candlelight and firelight . . .

{happy weekend!}

. . . another whirlwind week has come and gone and this weekend is tall boots and fallen leaves, brisk afternoons and warm tartan blankets, and in the evenings, tulle dresses and moonlight . . .

have a beautiful, beautiful weekend, everyone!

{firestarter}

{The small sitting room in Wembury, on the Devon coast.}

It's winter and nearly Valentine's Day, and the two together always remind me of some {and there are many} of my favourite fireplaces. Lately I’ve been seeing the use of stacks of perfectly piled firewood as a structural or graphic element in sitting rooms, and still very much in my rustic phase, the look appeals and brings thoughts of being tucked away in a lazy log cabin, twirls of smoke from the fire drawing intricate patterns in the Winter sky . . .
