{two lovely things: clean lines & cozy afternoons}

two lovely things
paradissi-2

paradissi-1

. . . famously known for maximalist tendencies, am sometimes surprised when irresistibly drawn to unadorned walls and clean, modern lines, although, having always grown up in homes with fireplaces, perhaps the lure of a roaring fire in this last day of january is simply too much to bear . . .

{p.s.} friday was errands & appointments and much too fun on saturday & sunday, missing a weekend farewell & links, and so, if you've only just arrived . . .

{a few lovely links:}

. . . and on the topic of wool tartan dresses and caramel-coloured suede, early autumn also invokes wonderful thoughts of softly glowing fireplaces and luxurious faux fur throws, the romance of candlelight and evenings spent cozy at home, enveloped in the loveliest things such as in this grand victorian home, filled with marble tables and graceful archways, intricately carved wood mirrors and tufted chaises, and best of all, that inexplicably nostalgic and always welcoming warm & woodsy feeling . . .

{two lovely things: white + silver}

. . . have always adored white with gold, never fully considering white and silver -- that is -- until happening upon these perfect pairings of a beautifully ornate mirror & a tiny metallic lampshade and crisp bed linens & a shimmering sequined pillow . . .

{city guides + chandeliers}

. . . a rainy monday evening of a new week, the sounds of traffic lingering with thoughts & reveries and crystal chandeliers, especially in rooms with soaring ceilings and high-gloss white floors . . .

{inspiration: simply perfect}

. . . always thought to prefer well-decorated fireplaces -- collections of art and photographs and memories, candles in the winter and gilded mirrors in the summer -- that is, until this perfectly simple and simply perfect one with inset mantel and elegantly pale pink hydrangeas . . .

{happy december + smokey lavender}

{this is glamorous}, colour inspiration for the holidays. . . can hardly contain the excitement of decorating for the holidays, and every year, a new colour theme -- seafoam & silver, champagne & gold and everything all aglow, or the frostiest shades of blue mixed with shimmery shades of tinsel. . . and this year, of course, smokey lavender & the palest gold . . .

{p.s.} happy december!

{inspiration: shoe storage}

. . . as not all pairs of shoes can be put on display, always come back to the idea of carefully stored and neatly stacked behind pretty pleated curtains . . .

{p.s.} also adore the lucite chair and antique mirror framed mantel

{colour inspiration: mahogany + gold}

. . . always fresh whites in springtime, and after that, warm whites in winter, but lately and always at this time of year, drawn to deep and cozy hues of mocha and mahogany, especially when paired with gold and the golden flickers of candlelight and firelight . . .

{at the shops: the society inc.}

at-the-shops-hed-23
could spend hours browsing through the society inc., a "haberdashery meets hardware" store that specialises in local and global textiles, furniture, homewares and beautiful things . . .

began by sydney-born interior stylist sibella court in an 1800s corner shop in paddington, NSW, the society inc. changes its contents and interior 4 times a year, transporting visitors into another world:

above, beautiful things from the paperwhites theme, inspired by paper ephemera & beachcombing, creamy whites and soft, whispery silver & golds and barely-there pinks, vintage mother of pearl, and lovely old crepe papers . . .

{colour inspiration: glimpses of pink}

. . . one of those weeks with a half a million unfinished projects, back-to-back appointments and invitations every evening -- it's beginning to feel like the holidays {which i adore} . . . slowing things down a little with perfectly pale and pretty glimpses of pink . . .

{p.s.} thanks for the great blog recommendations so far!

{autumn afternoons}

friday's happy weekend posts have somehow fallen away to weekend plans -- sometimes suitcases to pack or dinner reservations, but always excitement for the days ahead -- this weekend was moments in the still-warm september sun, afternoons in dusky cafés and evenings in candlelight, remembering rustling leaves and starlight and enveloped in the magic of autumn . . .

hope you had a beautiful weekend!

{at home with: photographer carter smith}

. . . back from an idyllic weekend in the countryside and still dreaming of deep, rich tones for the coming days when the sound of fallen leaves breaks the mid-afternoon silence and warm and romantic fireplaces crackle with newly chopped wood and everywhere, dark rich hues -- the colours of autumn . . .

. . . and here, carter smith's
photographic work, intermingled with the warm deep colours of his darkly cozy home . . .
