Today I attempted Clay Sculpting for the first time!
So basically i've been wanting to sculpt pretty much my whole life
and last week i ordered some clay and carving tools....
I tried my hand at it all day...
so if it turns out i will be posting soon :)

So today's post is a different version of the Kate Moss portrait i posted last week.
I thought i would do a full length version of it too.
I hope you like it : )

. . . monday comes in shades of green & gold -- westminster and huntington, chardonnay and woodside moss -- and even while there are overcast skies, and soon, the last of the fallen leaves, there is the warmth of these elegant and regal hues, and along with them, a certain anticipation of things to come, or perhaps the anticipation could be attributed to the start of a new week and so many beautiful things to look forward to in the days and weeks ahead . . .

{inspiration: summer afternoon}

"Summer afternoon -- Summer afternoon . . . the two most beautiful words in the English language."
~ Henry James

. . . can hardly contain the floods of happiness on brightly beautiful days and now that it's headstrong into summer, have been more hopelessly drawn than usual to beachside things: bare shoulders and tousled, sun-kissed strands,
shimmery golden skin and strappy high-heeled sandals -- and whether beachside or poolside -- pure languidness and sunlight all around . . .

Well My Friends it's Friday!~
YAY! I'm really happy that it is.
This has been a long week!
For example, I definitely fell asleep at my computer while proof reading last night!
My brother was kind enough to proof it, and click post for me, then wake me up! hahah
Yea, needless to say, I'm ready for some sleep this weekend.

So today's Inspiration Friday was inspired by the mix I'm currently listing to...
The playlist is posted up on "Inside My Brain" so you can listen along ;)
But really like how it turned out!
It has a warm intimate feel to it.
It kind of reminds me of the dreams you have that you're really disappointed you had to wake up,
and you wish they could go on forever...
You know what I'm talking about, right???

The Images are from a variety of places... Snorpy, Joe Sorren (my favorite living painter), Vincent Van Gogh, Life Magazine (1950), And the last photo on the bottom right, I took during this last Fashion Week at the Siki Im Fashion Presentation.

P.S. The image of Kate Moss was when she was 14 and it was her first photo shoot, i think... What the heck! She looked like a star from day 1 ;)

P.S.S. I'm working on a story book painting for yawl, i think you will like it! :)

. . . always in love with all things gold, and after covering a cocktail table in gold-leaf in early spring, even more drawn to its elegant shimmer, especially as gilded accents on walls and along ceilings, and on luxuriously beautiful carved sofas . . .

Irving Penn 1917 – 2009

Danny Roberts Painting of Photographer Irving Penn Self Portrait of him in Military uniform

Painting by Danny Roberts of Kate Moss Nude irving penn photo

Well Friends, We all lost a genius today.
Legendary photographer Irving Penn died today at age 92.
I have to say, I'm pretty bummed about his passing.
I feel like the number of Old Great Artists like him keep dwindling down.
He is one of my all time favorite photographers...a true inspiration...
I mean, he was still working in his 90's!
So awesome! Shoot! He is so, so, so amazing!
I just hope we (young artists) can take the baton and inspire the world like Irving has.

As a Tribute to him,
I thought I'd share these two paintings today.
The first painting is an old picture of Irving Penn in the the military.
The second one is of the Nude Portrait he did of Kate Moss.
I really tried to do the painting in a way that would do justice to Irving's incredible Black & Whites.
I hope you like the pictures.
If you haven't seen Irving Penn's work, please look it up. You will be a fan!

{inspiration: black + white}

When there's a moment to spend sorting through the abyss that is the closet, often find myself wandering away to do other things -- sometimes difficult to pare down and part with things, infinitely easier to sort through the hundreds of photographs in inspiration folders -- and happened upon these lovely shots of black + white -- the best of both worlds: bright airiness contrasted with bold elegance . . .
